Let's Not Forget The Reason For Today!!!!

Memorial Day was started by former slaves on May, 1, 1865 in Charleston, SC to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. They dug up the bodies and worked for 2 weeks to give them a proper burial as gratitude for fighting for their freedom. They then held a parade of 10,000 people led by 2,800 Black children where they marched, sang and celebrated. Read more at http://www.snopes.com/military/memorialday.asp#vDQ2vUpYZbsMwToS.99

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

The first American Mother's Day celebration happened in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother. Her mother, Anna Reeves Jarvis, a peace advocate, died in 1905.  That same year, Anna  had a mission to honor her mother by continuing  her work and she also started a movement for a special day to honor all mothers. Anna's persistence and determination to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States paid off. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother's Day.
